It is with profound sadness that the family of Todd Alexander Cranston announced his passing on May 4, 2026, following a courageous battle with brain cancer. Todd’s death marks the loss of a beloved husband, devoted father, respected mentor, accomplished athlete, and cherished friend whose influence extended far beyond his family and professional life. Those who knew him describe him as “one of the good guys,” a compassionate and trustworthy man whose kindness and leadership left a lasting impact on countless people.
To know Todd was truly a gift. Throughout his life, he built strong relationships through his generosity, humor, and unwavering support for others. He was the type of person who would do anything for someone in need, always willing to offer guidance, encouragement, or simply a listening ear. His warmth and sincerity made him beloved by friends, colleagues, teammates, and members of the community alike.
Todd is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Sandy Lee, and their two sons, Alec (Jenna) and Lochlin, who were the center of his world. He also leaves behind his mother, Marion; brothers Tim (Anna) and Tony; sister Stephanie; nephew Bowen; and many extended family members and lifelong friends who will continue to carry his memory forward. He was predeceased by his father, Murdock Cranston, along with several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A graduate of Saint Mary’s University, Todd went on to build a successful career in technical sales. Most recently, he served as Regional Sales Manager for Eastern Canada with Hetek Solutions, where he spent more than a decade helping grow the company’s operations across Eastern and Atlantic Canada. Colleagues admired his leadership, professionalism, and commitment, particularly during a major 2022 acquisition that benefited greatly from his efforts and expertise.
Todd’s accomplishments in sports were equally extraordinary. A gifted athlete, he excelled in hockey, racquetball, handball, and dory boat racing. He was a nine-time provincial racquetball champion, competed in ten national championships, earned a silver medal at the 1979 Canada Games, and achieved multiple Canadian Dory Boat Racing championships. His contributions to athletics extended even further through decades of coaching and mentoring young hockey players throughout Nova Scotia.
As a longtime leader with Chebucto Minor Hockey Association, Todd dedicated countless hours to developing athletes and supporting families in the hockey community. One of his proudest accomplishments was coaching alongside his son Alec with the Citadel Phoenix Hockey Team, where they captured back-to-back provincial championships together.
Though Todd achieved success in many areas of life, his family says his greatest joy was being a husband and father. His love, dedication, and unwavering support created a foundation of strength and love that will continue to guide his family forever.
